Biography:

Mr. Weiler is engaged in all areas of tax practice with a particular emphasis on tax litigation, state and local tax matters, employee benefit plans (pension and welfare) for public and private employers, business, financial and estate planning and U.S. taxation of foreign investors.

Upon graduation for law school, Mr. Weiler was employed as a trial attorney with the Chief Counsel’s Office, Internal Revenue Service, in Washington, D.C.  While in D.C., Mr. Weiler was awarded a Masters of Law Degree with a major in Taxation from the George Washington University, Washington, D.C.

He is licensed by the Louisiana State Bar Association as both a Board Certified Tax Attorney and a Board Certified Estate Planning and Administration Specialist.

Honors & Affiliations: 

Mr. Weiler is a past chairman of the Section on Taxation, Louisiana State Bar Association, past president of the New Orleans Estate Planning Council and the past president of the Association of Employee Benefit Planners of New Orleans. He is a past director of the National Association of Estate Planning Councils and the National Association of Estate Planners.  Mr. Weiler is a member of the American Bar Association, and the Louisiana Bar Association Tax Section.

He is listed in the professional directories titled “Who’s Who Among American Lawyers” and “The Best Lawyers in America.”  Mr. Weiler has also been recognized as a Super Lawyer for 2007 through 2021, a "Top Rated Tax Attorney in New Orleans," and a Top Lawyer by New Orleans Magazine.  During his professional career, Mr. Weiler has authored various tax articles and he is a frequent speaker at professional seminars.

Biography:

Mr. Rees is a founding member of Weiler & Rees.  He concentrates his practice in the fields of taxation, business transactions including start-ups, mergers and acquisitions, corporate, partnership and limited liability company law and business transactions, venture capital and financing, tax credit business incentive programs, and sophisticated estate and wealth transfer transactions and planning.  Mr. Rees is also skilled in handling federal, state and local tax controversies and litigation.

Mr. Rees graduated with honors from Tulane Law School after first earning a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from the University of Southwestern Louisiana, and passing the Certified Public Accountant examination, then went on to earn a Master of Laws in Taxation graduate degree, with honors, from Boston University.  Mr. Rees served as a law clerk to the Honorable Judge D. Irvin Couvillion of the United States Tax Court in Washington, D.C. Mr. Rees began his law practice in New Orleans in 1990 with Mr. John J. Weiler at a previous firm and Mr. Weiler and Mr. Rees have worked together for over 20 years.

Mr. Rees is regularly recognized as a "Top Rated Tax Attorney in Covington" by Super Lawyers, an America's Most Honored Lawyer - Top 1% by the American Registry, and an AV Preeminent Attorney by Lawyers.com. 

Mr. Rees is a member of the American Bar Association, Louisiana Bar Association and the Section of Taxation. He has lectured on various federal and state tax law topics and has authored articles which have been published in various professional journals, including the Journal of Taxation.  Mr. Rees is a financial advisor to the board of Directors of Safe Harbor Domestic Violence Shelter and a Parishoner of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Mandeville, LA.

Biography:

Mr. Williamson is a member of Weiler & Rees.  He concentrates his practice on IRS and state audit and collections, federal, state and local tax controversy, estate planning, succession administration, business planning and transactions, and intellectual property matters.

Mr. Williamson earned his Juris Doctor from Tulane Law School in 2007 after earning a Bachelor of Science degree from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge.  At Tulane, Mr. Williamson served Managing Editor of the Tulane Maritime Law Journal, and was Secretary and a founding member of the Tulane Civil Law Society.  He was the recipient of the Cullen R. Liskow Award for Oil & Gas, the CALI Excellence Award for Advanced Oil & Gas and the CALI Excellence Award for Trademarks and Unfair Competition.  During Hurricane Katrina, Mr. Williamson attended Boston University School of Law, where he was the recipient of the Dean's Award for Intellectual Property.   Mr. Williamson earned his Masters of Law in Taxation from Villanova University School of Law, achieving a 4.0 GPA.

Mr. Williamson began his law practice in Fort Worth, Texas, before returning to New Orleans in 2014.  Mr. Williamson is a member of the Louisiana Bar Association and the Section of Taxation. He has been recognized as a Top Attorney.
